Understanding Restoration Costs
Due to the nature of restoration work, there are often hidden or unforeseen issues — such as rust concealed beneath structural components — that can’t be identified until the vehicle is fully disassembled. Because of this, it's not possible to provide an exact quote upfront.
All of our restorations are billed on a time-and-materials basis. Every project comes with its own unique set of challenges, and any initial cost estimate should be viewed as a rough guideline, not a fixed price.
It’s important to understand that the idea of an “inexpensive restoration” is one of the biggest misconceptions about this process. True restoration is a labor- and detail-intensive undertaking that requires a significant financial investment. For this reason, we require an advance deposit, with ongoing billing throughout the project until completion.
Restoring a vehicle is a serious commitment — but for the right owner, the results are well worth it.
Things to expect:
- When original parts aren't available, we use high-quality new old stock (NOS) or carefully matched reproduction parts.
- We apply body filler with precision, keeping it within tight tolerances to maintain the integrity of the vehicle’s shape.
- Each vehicle is primed and blocked at least twice—often more—to ensure a smooth, straight surface. We use premium polyester primer, followed by a high-quality two-part sealer and primer.
- We use finer grits of sandpaper throughout the sanding process for a smoother, more refined finish.
- The paint is lightly polished to remove dust specks and minor flaws. While we aim for a clean finish, some small imperfections may remain due to the nature of the process.
- Frame-off restorations are available when needed and are only done with the customer’s full approval. In some cases, removing the body from the frame is the best way to address rust, damage, or structural issues properly. This process is extensive and will significantly increase the overall cost, but it allows for a much more thorough and long-lasting restoration.
- Most of the blocking and sanding is done by hand to ensure precision and attention to detail. Machine sanding is used where appropriate to save time without sacrificing quality.
- Panels are typically fully skim-coated to achieve maximum straightness and a smooth, consistent surface.
- The doors, hood, and deck lid are removed to allow for complete access and a more thorough refinish.
- We generally use a base coat/clear coat paint system for a deep, durable finish.
- All chrome trim and moldings are removed prior to body and paint work for a cleaner result.

Custom Paint That Stands Out
With decades of experience in custom automotive paint and prep, Beal & Co. can paint nearly anything you bring us — from classic cars and prized motorcycles to industrial equipment, signage, helmets, musical instruments, or works of art. We specialize in delivering custom paint jobs that make your vehicle or project truly stand out.
Every piece gets the same meticulous prep we use for auto restorations — filling, smoothing, and cleaning the surface to ensure the best paint adhesion — followed by priming, painting, and polishing to perfection. When it’s done, the possibilities for your design are endless.
Custom Fiberglass Work
Sometimes a restoration or custom build calls for shapes that simply can’t be made from metal — especially in areas where weight, fit, and creative freedom are key. That’s where our custom fiberglass work comes in.
At Beal & Co., we have the skills and experience to shape fiberglass into almost anything you can imagine. From custom-colored dash panels and interior components to unique body mods or full vehicle transformations, we can design and build pieces that are lightweight, strong, and made to fit your vision perfectly. If you can dream it, we can create it.
